Instructions for the Use of Biological Pesticide—Oligosaccharins in the Prevention and Treatment of Basal Stem Rot of Oil Palm

Referred to the prevention and treatment of basal stem rot of oil palm with oligosaccharins, the use of injection method or sprinkling method shall be decided according to the different disease conditions.
1. For those disease-free palm trees, only the sprinkling method shall be used.
2. For those slight or middle-sick trees, the sprinkling plus injection method shall be used. The slight or middle-sick trees and their surrounding four disease-free trees also shall be used the sprinkling plus injection method.
3. For those heavy sick trees (5-level sick tree), the whole plant shall be removed and burned outside the plantation. The root hole of the plant shall be sterilized by Formalin, bleaching powder or lime.
I. Sprinkling method
1. To make up a prescription: Adding 7 kg (70 times) water into 100 ml oligosaccharins (special for palm tree), then mixing them as the sprinkling liquid drug.
2. Time of sprinkling and frequency: The first-time sprinkling shall be carried out when some diseased plants have appeared. Since then the sprinkling shall be conducted once every 60 to 90 days, 4 to 6 times a year.
The first sprinkling (for disease-free palm plantation) for prevention shall be conducted before the beginning of rainy season. It shall be carried out once every 90 to 120 days and 3 to 4 times a year.
3. Usage: Before sprinkling the drug, the soil connected to the root of palm tree shall be removed until the width reaches to 20 cm and the roots expose.Tthen the finished liquid drug shall be evenly sprinkled around the stem base and roots of palm tree. It is required that the drug shall directly reach to the open stem base and roots. After the sprinkling, the soil shall be covered again.
4. Dosage: The dosage of sprinkling shall be decided upon the size of plant. In general, the dosage is 1 to 2 kg for each plant.
II. Injection method
It would be better to use high-pressure injector for trunk injection. The oligosaccharins (special for palm tree) with 70 times water added shall be filled into the high-pressure injector firstly. Then it shall be injected into the palm trunk 5 to 8 cm away from the ground at the angle of 45。. The four injections will be carried out on four different directions of each sick tree. The depth of injection shall be the radius of tree trunk. The four palm trees surrounding the sick tree shall be performed one injection at the side faced the sick tree. The liquid drug for each injection shall be 1.5 to 2 kg, which depends upon the size of palm tree.
III. Prevention and nutrition
The Yuanfeng biological peptides (plant nutrient) with 300 to 400 times water added shall be sprayed on the upper and lower surfaces of leaf and the fruit when the sprinkling or the sprinkling plus injection carried out, so as to facilitate the recovery of sick palm tree and improve the effect of drug and enhance the output and quality of palm.
IV. Cautions
1. The drug shall be sprinkled or injected on a sunny day with dry soil. If the weather forecast says it will be cloudy and rainy recently, then the drug shall be used 2 days before the rain. If it rains 1 day after sprinkling, it shall be sprinkled once more.
2. Besides the use of oligosaccharins to prevent and treat the basal stem rot of oil palm, the other measures for comprehensive prevention and treatment also shall be carried out, such as, soil sterilizing before planting, installation of good field irrigation system and in-time removing and burning of dead plants, by which a better prevention and treatment effect will be achieved.
3. The oligosaccharins is used combined with the biological peptides (plant nutrient).
4. During the period from the current sprinkling to next-time sprinkling, the palm plantation shall be inspected once every half a month. And when the new disease plant is found, the drug sprinkling plus injection shall be carried out immediately.
